To provide unbiased and reliable yield performance information to Colorado wheat growers, the Colorado State University Crops Testing Program annually conducts winter wheat variety trials at multiple locations throughout Colorado. The Colorado Wheat Variety Performance Database provides complete access to winter wheat cultivar information and performance data from Colorado trials (1990-2008) as well as recent trials in Kansas, Nebraska, and Wyoming (2001-2008). The database may be used to find up-to-date information on wheat cultivars grown in Colorado, display grain yield and test weight data from individual trial locations, generate grain yield and test weight summaries across multiple trial locations and years, and generate head-to-head comparisons for two varieties of interest.

In using this database, wheat producers are encouraged to spread the variety decision risk by planting more than one variety. The average performance over two or three years is a proven tool for yield performance evaluation but producers should be mindful of other varietal characteristics, like maturity, height, disease and insect resistance, and quality characteristics, that influence variety adaptation, performance, and marketing options.

Screen Shots of the Database

Users may search the database for information on current varieties or compare charateristics between two varieties. Displays highlight important variety characteristics and show a picture of the variety in a field plot.
Users may create multiple-location averages across years and trial regions specified by the user. Displays show yield and test weight averages across specified trial locations.
Users may create a head-to-head summary between two varieties, restricted to datasets specified by the user. Displays show yield and test weight of the two varieties and a statistical comparison between the two varieties.

Version Notes

8/21/08 added remaining NE data, added Thunder CL variety

8/9/08 updated with 2008 data (CO, KS, NE)

11/3/07 updated with all 2007 data (CO, KS, WY, NE)
added percent of trial average data columns for single- and multi-location summaries
